Beautification & Stewardship - Lake St. Catherine State Park - Poultney, VT
Lake St. Catherine
Lake Saint Catherine State Park is a 117 acre park on Lake Saint Catherine in Poultney. The park has 61 campsites, picnic sites, a nature trail, a nature center, a boat ramp, a swimming area, and a concession stand. Each campsite and the park grounds must be cleaned of leaves and sticks that have accumulated over the fall and winter seasons. Park buildings need repainting at regular intervals. The invasive species garlic mustard has become very common along the park’s nature trail and needs to be removed. Vermont State Parks operate on a small budget, so staffing at the parks is minimal. The majority of staff begin work in June. This leaves a heavy burden on the few staff that start in May to clean the park grounds before opening to the public. Your help will be greatly appreciated, and will allow park staff to focus on other tasks when they return to work. Tasks 1. Clean campsites by raking leaves into the woods, picking up and removing branches that have fallen onto the campsites and picking up and bagging trash at the campsites (40 students) 2. Paint building interior (old nature center building, in the campground) (10 students) 3. Remove invasive garlic mustard along the nature trail (20 students) Rain Alternatives All tasks will be completed rain or shine.
