Middlebury College Mentoring Day
Middlebury College Natatorium

Community Friends and DREAM are collaborating to plan a Middlebury College Mentoring day to celebrate campus mentors and mentees. The afternoon will begin with a pool party and open swim at the Middlebury College Natatorium. Red Cross lifeguards will be on duty at all times. Mentors and mentees will have the chance to swim, play water basketball, pool games, etc. Also, an arts and crafts room will be available for an alternative activity. In addition, we will be writing letters to the children of Vermont soldiers in Iraq thanking them for the sacrifices their families make. We will end the event with a pizza party for all participants.

Playground Staining!

Middlebury's Relay for Life
Rugby Field at Middlebury College

Relay for Life is an overnight fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society. Students and community members register online (you can too) and collect donations throughout the year that will be given to the ACS. On April 23rd we gather at the college to celebrate, remember, and fight back against the terrible disease. This year our theme is Board Games and we are hoping to raise $130,000. If you are interested in joining, visit our websate at www.relayforlife.org/middleburycollege or email us with any questions at relayforlife@midlebury.edu.

The Walden Project
The Willowell Foundation Land

Students from the Walden Project and community volunteers will be spending the day in the Willowell Foundation's "Walden Community Garden" pulling weeds, building garden structures, preparing raised beds, and planting early crops for this year's garden. Student volunteers will also be working with an elementary class teaching basic survival skills and other nature based activities.

Brookside Mobile Home Park Youth Service Day
Brookside Mobile Home Park

Our project is focused on community beautification, youth engagement, and education about gardening and food. Our goal is to engage youth that may have fewer service opportunities in a service project that will benefit their own community. It will also serve as the first of several future opportunities for youth we will offer throughout the summer. Youth from Brookside Mobile Home Park will have the opportunity to make their own container gardens using barrels, compost, manure, and seeds/starts of vegetables and flowers such as cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, and marigolds. Youth will help beautify their community, and will learn about gardening, garden maintenance, and about the plants and vegetables they plant in their barrel gardens. At the end of the project, we will celebrate with refreshments and a reflection on the project.
