Vermont Campus Compact (VCC) is pleased to be selected by Youth Service America to bring the 20th Annual National and Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) to Vermont.  Millions of youth participate in Global Youth Service Day, the largest service event in the world. They tutor young children, engage in disaster relief, register new voters, educate their communities about good nutrition, distribute HIV/AIDs prevention materials and meet many more community needs through their service. Global Youth Service Day supports youth on a life-long path of service and civic engagement, and educates the public, the media, and elected officials about the role of youth as community leaders.

Over 2500 Vermont high school and college leaders will mobilize their peers, community and business leaders, and others in civic engagement projects throughout the state.

GYSD features service projects, community organizing, education and issue awareness, and youth leadership, as well as the opportunity to connect with Vermont based non-profits and socially responsible businesses.

GYSD will both highlight youth service in Vermont, and mobilize youth leadership to participate in a global service event.  VCC will oversee sites, coordinate media coverage, and organize the culminating event.

2008 Global Youth Service Day Features:

• Multiple and varied youth-led service projects throughout Vermont focused on literacy, the environment, healthcare, hunger, elderly services, and more;

• A kick-off event with local leaders to celebrate GYSD;

• Opportunity for youth-leaders to apply for mini-grants to help support their event!
